Most people can be accused of wasting natural resources at the outset. Statistically speaking, 90% of the clothes you put in the washing machine have not yet had time to get dirty. And while some things are frantically being cleaned, others are waiting impatiently for a spin in the drum of your washing machine.
1. Leggings vs jeans
The frequent washing of jeans washes out the paint and makes jeans’ fabric lose its shape. Moreover, high temperatures promote shrinkage which will make your favorite jeans look differently on you than on the day you bought them. “Do you want to save your jeans? Never put them in the washing machine.” That’s the advice of Levi’s CEO Chip Bergh. The head of the company confessed that he hadn’t machine washed his jeans for more than ten years.
Of course, you have to go through the whole thing. But remember that jeans were originally designed for cowboys and workers, and these people didn’t care about cleanliness. Follow their example: relax and only clean your jeans if they are very dirty. Wash them inside out in cold water.
The leggings situation is totally different. The problem with any tight-fitting outfit is that it absorbs perspiration perfectly and thus becomes a breeding ground for bacteria that cause unpleasant odours. If you wear leggings in your everyday life, you can wash them after 2-3 uses. But if you train intensively, it is advisable to wash them after each session.
